Suppression
Which addresses Cresca will not send to, and why a marketing unsubscribe never blocks a password reset.
Sending to addresses that bounce or complain damages your domain's reputation and can get your email filtered for everyone. Cresca keeps a suppression list and skips those addresses automatically.
What blocks transactional email
| Reason | Scope | Blocks API email? |
|---|---|---|
| Hard bounce (address does not exist) | All Cresca accounts | Yes |
| Repeated soft bounces (3 in 30 days) | All Cresca accounts | Yes |
| Spam complaint about your email | Your account | Yes |
| Added manually in your suppression list | Your account | Yes |
| Unsubscribed from your marketing email | Your account | No |
An unsubscribe is a request to stop marketing. People still need their password resets, receipts and security alerts, so the API ignores unsubscribes. Campaigns always respect them.
What happens to a suppressed recipient
- The recipient is removed from the email and recorded as a
suppressedevent. - The other recipients still receive the email.
- If every recipient is suppressed, the API still returns
200with an id, and the email's status issuppressed. - Suppressed recipients do not count toward your monthly allowance.
Spam complaints only suppress the address for the account it complained about, so another Cresca customer's complaint never blocks your email.
